Reaching communities in Sierra Leone with TB prevention

Reaching communities in Sierra Leone with TB prevention

Across remote communities in Sierra Leone, tuberculosis (TB) remains a major threat, particularly for children, pregnant women, and people living with HIV. Misconceptions and stigma around the disease, combined with limited access to TB care, often prevent those at risk from getting the support they need.

Tuberculosis remains the world’s deadliest infectious disease, claiming over 1.2 million lives each year. But it can be prevented and cured if diagnosed early.

Through the Unitaid-supported IMPAACT4TB project, led by the Aurum Institute, shorter, highly effective TB preventive treatments are now reaching those most at risk in more than 100 countries. By making these medicines affordable and accessible, families can protect their loved ones and help stop TB before it starts.

Watch how Unitaid and partners the Aurum Institute and Cismat have expanded access to TB prevention and helped protect lives across communities in Sierra Leone:
